e-learning super sample

I created this e-learning super sample as part of a presentation to show kids what an instructional designer does.

Right off the bat it asks for your name and lets you select an avatar. These are arbitrary choices that don’t affect the e-learning at all, but just the illusion of choice is enough to draw learners in.

Of course you can’t be a superhero without a secret identity. I found a superhero name generator that relies on something like your birth month and day and plugged it into Storyline using the random number generator.

From here on out it’s largely a conversational-style interaction that I like to rely on. Again, the illusion of choice draws you in. To be able to respond positively, negatively, or snarkily makes it feel like you get to be yourself. And even though it doesn’t alter the trajectory of the e-learning, it does change how the wizard host responds, and there’s a hidden personality test behind your answers as well.

I used a few drag-and-drop interactions as a sort of quiz and lesson on a few things that instructional designers need to know.

And at the end of the e-learning, it assigns you a patronus based on your answers. Since there were positive responses, negative responses, and sarcastic/clever responses, I tried to choose animals that have that reputation.
